The first Jak was called Jak & Daxter, featuring two less-than-rebellious characters in an adventure that won them 5 out of 5 stars. After the success of the first one, Naughty Dog released Jak II with a spunkier Jak at the helm. With a significantly increased difficulty, many fans were surprisingly turned off. But Jak 3 rolled around, with great, expansive environments, the free-roaming capability of GTA, the rebel without a cause Jak and his quirky Ottsel buddy Daxter, a great plot, varying enemies, levels, missions and maps, a large amount of things to do including hoverboarding and racing cars, and of course shooting innocent locals. The game, in short, was the essence of perfection and fun, challenging enough not to piss off the easy-going crowd, hard enough to pose a threat in a reasonable amount of time, and mature enough to make us enjoy the characters and their plights. Then Jak X came. The game was upsetting--terribly easy, incredibly quick, no replay value, and a poor plot with obvious plot "twists"--and it was an anticlimactic end to the so-far Jak universe. Afterwards we get Daxter on the PSP, which I've yet to play. Everyone claims it is fun, comical, and worthwhile, but honestly I'm just waiting for another Jak game.
